Nothing Phone (2a) Launches with Lower Price and Upgraded Features

After numerous teasers and leaks, the Nothing Phone (2a) officially launches today, with pre-orders available at a lower-than-expected price of £319.

Budget-Focused Smartphone:

The Nothing Phone (2a) marks the brand’s first strictly budget-focused smartphone. One of its significant changes is the shift from Snapdragon chips to the slightly-custom MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro. This new chip, built on TSMC’s newer 4nm process, offers considerable speed improvements over the Snapdragon 778+ found in Phone (1).

Key Features of Dimensity 7200 Pro:

The Dimensity 7200 Pro brings several software features that integrate with the chip. Notably, “Smart Clean” boosts read/write speeds to the 128GB or 256GB of storage. Additionally, there’s a RAM Booster that can utilize storage to provide up to 20GB of memory. The base variant offers 8GB of RAM, while the higher-end model boasts 12GB.

Enhanced Display and Battery:

The Nothing Phone (2a) features a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a variable refresh rate between 30Hz and 120Hz. The panel is also brighter than that of Phone (1). The device is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W wired charging and IP54 water/dust resistance.

Iconic Glyph Lighting and Design:

Phone (2a) retains the brand’s iconic Glyph lighting on the back, albeit in a simplified layout with only three lights. However, one of these lights still supports super-granular lighting useful for timers and similar functions on Phone (2).
