Apple plans to adopt new screen technology for the Series 10’s OLED display, as reported by The Elec. The company aims to utilize low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology to further reduce power consumption.

New Screen Technology

The current method for Apple Watch displays involves using oxide for some switching TFTs and low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) for others. However, the new approach will integrate oxide on more switching TFTs and driving TFTs.

Transition to LTPO

While Apple is incorporating more oxide, it’s not entirely abandoning LTPS. LTPS will still be utilized for remaining TFTs and circuits outside the viewable pixel space.

Potential Expansion

Apple’s exploration of this display technology for the Apple Watch could extend to other products, including the iPhone. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could feature LTPO TFT, while LTPO technology may be present in all iPhone 17 models.

MicroLED Rumors

Initially, there were rumors about the Series 10 featuring a MicroLED panel. However, recent reports indicate that Apple has halted internal projects and canceled plans with suppliers.
