Apple has recently introduced a significant upgrade to iMessage encryption, incorporating post-quantum protections dubbed PQ3. This enhancement marks what the company hails as the most substantial cryptographic security advancement in the history of the messaging platform.
In a blog post released on Wednesday, Apple unveiled PQ3, a novel encryption protocol aimed at significantly bolstering the security of iMessage. Since its inception in 2011, iMessage has boasted end-to-end encryption, a feature prized for safeguarding chat privacy an attribute not universally offered by web messengers.
Despite this, Apple’s encryption has occasionally fallen short of desired security standards. However, with this latest update, Apple asserts that messages will now enjoy unprecedented security levels. So robust is the protection that Apple has coined a new term—”Level 3″—to denote the unmatched security measures now inherent in iPhone conversations.
