Meta Company has announced the discontinuation of Messenger Lite, the streamlined version of Facebook Messenger designed to consume less storage and data.
The app has already been removed from the Google Play Store and will no longer be supported on Android devices starting next month. For users who already have Messenger Lite installed on their smartphones, Android will cease its support from September 18, and message exchanges will halt from September 28.
In its efforts to enhance security and privacy features, including the implementation of end-to-end encryption, to the original Facebook Messenger by the end of this year, Meta has made the decision to close the Lite version.
