Google Pixel 9 Camera Setup Leak

Google Pixel 9 Camera Setup Leak

Google is expected to launch four Pixel 9 smartphones on August 13. Today, a detailed leak about the cameras of these devices surfaced. According to Android Authority, the leak reveals the sensors and lenses behind the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Major Overhaul in Camera Setup

The leak includes both the front-facing and main cameras. Google is preparing a major overhaul for all devices. However, the primary sensor will remain the same as in the Pixel 8 series. This includes the Pixel Fold, launched separately.

Improved Sensors

The sensors are once again made by Sony or Samsung. The Pro models will have a 50 MP IMX858 sensor at the front and back. The super-old IMX386, which was responsible for ultra-wide-angle shots, is finally gone. This change means there will be an increase in image resolution and size.

Telephoto Sensor Update

Interestingly, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are getting a new telephoto sensor. However, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is sticking to the old sensor. Android Authority speculates this is because the foldable is 2 mm thinner than its predecessor, leaving no room for a larger sensor.

Comparison with Last Year’s Sensors

Here’s how the new sensors stack against last year’s:

  • The new sensors offer better resolution and size.
  • The old IMX386 sensor is replaced, improving ultra-wide shots.
  • The Pro models feature a new telephoto sensor, except for the Fold.
