YouTube’s Stable Volume Feature Expands to Android TV and Google TV

After being available on mobile for some time, YouTube’s “stable volume” feature is now expanding to Android TV and Google TV devices.

What is Stable Volume?

Stable volume is designed to improve your listening experience across YouTube content. It automatically adjusts video volume, so you don’t need to constantly adjust your remote for loud or quiet parts. Google’s support page says it helps “reduce jarring differences in volume.”

How Does it Work?

Stable volume balances the volume range between quiet and loud parts of a video. This creates a more consistent listening experience, especially since not all audio on YouTube is mixed evenly. The feature ensures a smoother viewing experience regardless of the content.

How to Use Stable Volume

You can find the stable volume toggle on various Google TV and Android TV devices running the latest YouTube v4.40.303 release. To enable or disable it, tap the gear icon while a video is playing. Stable volume is turned on by default, but you can turn it off in the app settings if you prefer more control over the volume or if it alters the intended audio experience of certain videos.

When is it Useful?

Stable volume might not be useful in all situations, such as listening to music or detailed audio mixes. However, it is a helpful tool for casual YouTube watching, especially for podcasts or videos with inconsistent sound levels.
