In a long-awaited move, Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7 update, based on Android 15, is set to introduce Large Folders—a feature already present in many competitor Android skins. This feature will offer a more convenient way to access frequently used apps, going beyond the standard folder icon size.
Currently, One UI allows users to group apps in folders on the home screen or app drawer, keeping them easily accessible while reducing clutter. However, Large Folders will take this further by offering a 3×3 grid layout. This layout lets users access up to eight apps directly, with a ninth minimized icon representing additional apps. Tapping this icon expands the folder, revealing all the contained apps for easy selection.
Leaks suggest that One UI 7’s Large Folders will adopt similar functionality to those in HarmonyOS and HyperOS. Samsung may even introduce unique refinements specific to Galaxy devices. The One UI 7 Beta program is rumored to start in August, with a stable release expected in late October.
While not groundbreaking, the addition of Large Folders is a welcome step towards improving the user experience on Samsung devices. Whether Samsung’s implementation will offer unique advantages remains to be seen.
