Google Maps Adds Speedometer and Speed Limits on iPhone and CarPlay

Google Maps for Android has a speedometer that shows your driving speed. Now, it’s coming to the iPhone and CarPlay.

New Features on iPhone

Google confirmed this update to TechCrunch. The speedometer appears in the bottom-left corner as a circle when you’re driving. The speed indicator changes colors if you go over the speed limit.

Global Speed Limit Indicators

Google Maps is also rolling out speed limit indicators globally. You can see the speed limit for the road you’re on.

Safety Information

For safety, Google says the gauge is “for informational use only.” External factors may cause the Maps Speedometer to differ from your actual speed.

How to Turn It On or Off

To turn the speedometer on or off, tap Speed Limit. Go to Maps Settings > Navigation > Map display > Show speedometer to disable it completely.
