New Feature for Color Blind Users
Based on a report from Android Authority, Android 15 could gain a new tool to assist colorblind users. The feature is an intensity slider. This slider can increase or decrease how much of a certain color is corrected on the phone.
How It Works
The intensity slider is not available yet. However, the team at Android Authority managed to manually turn it on for testing. The slider comes with three values: low, medium, and high. Users can tweak the intensity of the color balance changes. This adjustment helps users with different levels of color blindness. It changes the hue of the colors, helping those with varying degrees of deuteranomaly or tritanomaly.
Enhancing Accessibility
This tool is promising because it adds personalization beyond a simple on-off button. With different degrees of color blindness, this feature makes Android phones more accessible.
Current Color Correction Settings
Android has had color correction control for years. You can find these settings under Settings – Accessibility – Color and motion. This page allows users to toggle several modes that help with color perception issues. These modes include Protan (red-green), Tritan (blue-yellow), Deutan (green-red), grayscale, or a personalized color setting.
Turning on these settings tweaks the color balance. It helps those with color blindness better distinguish colors by changing colors or increasing contrast. If the new feature discovered by Android Authority makes it into Android 15, it will add the intensity slider. This will make the operating system a more customizable experience for everyone.
