Tesla’s “We, Robot” Event Showcases Optimus Robots

Tesla recently unveiled its Optimus humanoid robots at the much-anticipated “We, Robot” event. Videos from the event showed the robots walking, dancing, mixing drinks, and interacting with guests. Tesla investors and fans in attendance expressed awe at the impressive capabilities of the bots, which seemed to demonstrate significant technological advancements.

Human Control Behind Tesla’s Optimus Robot Performance

Despite the excitement, reports from Bloomberg, The Verge, and other outlets revealed that much of Tesla’s Optimus robot performance was controlled by humans. While the bots could walk independently, Tesla employees managed interactions such as voice responses and gestures. This raised questions about the true abilities of the robots and how far Tesla has come in achieving full automation.

Tesla Investors Question Market Readiness of Optimus Robots

The revelation that Tesla’s Optimus robots relied on human assistance sparked skepticism among investors regarding their commercial viability. Tesla has suggested a price range of $20,000 to $30,000 for each robot. However, the reliance on human intervention led to doubts about whether the robots are ready for consumer markets anytime soon. One Optimus robot even acknowledged that it was being “assisted by a human,” reinforcing concerns about their true level of autonomy.

Elon Musk’s Vision for Tesla Robotics and Optimus Future

Elon Musk, however, remains confident in Tesla’s long-term robotics vision. He outlined how Tesla’s Optimus robots could eventually perform various tasks such as mowing lawns, walking dogs, and even babysitting. Musk emphasized the company’s advancements in robotics and expressed his belief that Tesla will revolutionize this industry with its evolving technology.

Tesla Stock Reaction and Mixed Analyst Opinions

Following the event, Tesla’s stock dropped by 11%, partly due to a lack of new information on key revenue drivers like Robotaxi and Full-Self Driving (FSD) technology. However, some analysts remain optimistic about Tesla’s long-term robotics potential. They point to Tesla’s strengths in manufacturing, motor design, and vertical integration as key factors that could position it as a leader in the robotics sector despite current challenges.
