The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL will support 8K video recording, but there’s a catch. This feature is powered by Video Boost, which improves video quality, especially in low-light conditions. However, 8K recording is not an in-camera option; it requires backing up the footage to Google Photos, where it’s then transformed into 8K quality, likely via cloud processing.
Other camera features include the upcoming Zoom Enhance for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, although its availability at launch is uncertain. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold won’t support 8K recording but will still feature Video Boost.
Upgraded Camera Features for Pixel 9
The Pixel 9 will feature a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, like the Pro models. However, it lacks the telephoto sensor available on the Pro versions. The Pixel 9 includes Single-zone Laser Detect Auto-Focus, while the Pro models have Multi-zone LDAF. The Pixel 9 retains a 10-megapixel selfie camera, whereas the Pro models upgrade to a 42-megapixel selfie camera with a wider field of view.
